Simple terms, plainly said.
The gist
Speak Indo is an Indonesian learning app for iPhone, with a free tier and optional paid tiers (Pro, Lifetime). By using it, you agree to these terms. If you don't, don't use it.
Acceptable use
Use Speak Indo for learning Indonesian, for yourself or with others. Don't:
- Attempt to extract the entire content database and resell it
- Misrepresent it as your own product
- Use it to distribute malware or conduct phishing
- Scrape at abusive rates
Reasonable personal use, viewing, studying, sharing links with friends, embedding small excerpts with credit, is welcome.
No warranty
Speak Indo is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We make our best effort with translations and cultural notes, but the content may contain errors, omissions, or out-of-date information. If your Indonesian spouse laughs at a sentence you learned here, take their word over ours.
Accuracy of learning content
Indonesian is a living language with regional variations, slang shifts, and evolving formal register. Speak Indo's content targets standard Bahasa Indonesia as used in Jakarta/Java in the mid-2020s. Words that work in Java may sound stilted in North Sumatra. Local guidance always wins.
Third-party services
Speak Indo uses the following third-party services, each with its own terms you may wish to review:
- Account sync provider, authentication (Sign in with Apple, email and Google sign-in) and storage of your learning-state JSON.
- Apple, the App Store, and in-app purchases made on iPhone. Apple is the seller of record for those purchases and handles the payment; we never see your card.
- Stripe, payment processing for subscriptions and Lifetime purchases bought on the website. Card data is handled entirely by Stripe; we never see it.
- Cloudflare, hosting and CDN for the website.
- PostHog (EU region), product analytics on the website. Page views and a small number of named events. No ad tracking, and autocapture is off.
- Apple's on-device speech recognition, used by the Say It game to score pronunciation. Fonts are self-hosted and no font CDN is involved.
Subscriptions & refunds
The free tier of Speak Indo is free forever. Pro and Lifetime are paid tiers. Where you bought decides who handles the money, and that changes what you do to cancel or ask for a refund, so both cases are set out separately below.
Bought on iPhone, through the App Store
- Cancellation: cancel in Apple Account settings, under Subscriptions, the same place as every other App Store subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds: Apple is the seller of record, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com and decided under Apple's policy. We cannot issue them ourselves. If Apple turns you down and you think that is wrong, email us and we will do what we can.
- Trials: the monthly and yearly plans include a seven-day free trial. Cancel any time before it ends and you are not charged.
Bought on the website, through Stripe
- Cancellation: email hi@speak-indo.com and we cancel it, or use the billing portal link in your Stripe receipt. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Refunds: within 14 days of a charge, ask and we refund it, no questions and no retention script. After that, email us anyway: billing errors and "it genuinely does not work on my device" get handled in good faith. This does not affect any statutory right you have where you live.
Free tier: free stays free. We commit to not paywalling features that are in the Free tier today.
Service availability
We aim for high uptime but can't guarantee it. If hosting, account sync, or payment services have an outage, sign-in and sync may be unavailable or degraded. Studying itself does not need a connection: the app keeps your words, schedule and audio on the device, and progress syncs when connectivity returns.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we're not liable for any damages arising from your use of Speak Indo, including, but not limited to, embarrassing mispronunciations, misunderstood messages to your in-laws, or time spent learning a second language you later decide you don't need.
Changes
We may update these terms. If a material change happens, we'll post a notice on the app before you continue. Your continued use after that indicates acceptance.
